At Atlantic Reef Aquaculture (ARA), we believe in marine stewardship.  Our mission is to protect the coral reef. Teeming with diversity, this breathtaking habitat is the aquatic equivalent to our world’s rainforests. Not only does the reef provide food and shelter for a variety of species, it holds many secrets that have yet to be discovered.

Sadly, like other natural systems, the reef is in peril. This remarkable habitat is dying before our very eyes. A culmination of different human imposed threats has contributed to its decline. Water pollution, careless boating and scuba diving practices, as well as poor collection techniques for the pet trade have all taken their toll on this unique ecosystem.

How can we help?
By showcasing aquacultured reef tanks, a window opens into a marine world otherwise unknown. It is our hope that the beauty of even a single coral polyp will inspire conservation.

ARA is a state certified land based aquaculture facility as well as a federally permitted aquaculture coral/live rock farm 6.5 miles off shore in the lower Florida Keys.

Through sustainable aquaculture and mariculture practices, we hope to alleviate the stress traditional collection methods place on the reef habitat.

There are also many advantages for the hobbyist investing in tank/farm raised invertebrates. Captive bred corals are superior because they are accustomed to living in an artificial environment. This reduces stress and shock factors often associated with wild harvest and transport.

ARA’s brood stock systems have aquacultured coral colonies that are up to 20 YEARS OLD! Our goal is to extend and perpetuate the life of these brilliant animals so that you, the hobbyist, can grow, fragment, and propagate our invertebrates in your systems for years to come.
